Integrated Design Project (IDP)
The IDP a team based project, undertaken by all second year students, which is run 4 times a year (twice during Michaelmas and Lent terms). The course aims to give participants experience of the type of multi-disciplinary projects that are now common in industry. Each team is required to design, build, test and demonstrate a autonomous guided vehicle which has to perform a number of operations similar to those found in an automated factory. The work is assessed by a way of a number of individual and team reports, presentations together with the build quality and success xo of the robot. Students are normally in teams of 6, selected at random from the lab groups participating in the project. The main sessions are Mon 11-1, Wed 9-11 and Thursdays 9-11 with most of the work centered around the EIET Laboratory, DPO and upper workshop. Details of the course and the specific work schedule etc can be found in the current IDP Handbook below, together with the latest briefing sheet/problem statement. N.B. The project task changes for each project.
