Integrated Design Project (IDP)
The IDP a team based project, undertaken by all second year students, which is run 4 times a year (twice during Michaelmas and Lent terms). The course aims to give participants experience of the type of multi-disciplinary projects that are now common in industry. Each team is required to design, build, test and demonstrate a autonomous guided vehicle which has to perform a number of operations similar to those found in an automated factory. The work is assessed by a way of a number of individual and team reports, presentations together with the build quality and success xo of the robot. Students are normally in teams of 6, selected at random from the lab groups participating in the project. The main sessions are Mon 11-1, Wed 9-11 and Thursdays 9-11 with most of the work centered around the EIET Laboratory, DPO and upper workshop. Details of the course and the specific work schedule etc can be found in the current IDP Handbook below, together with the latest briefing sheet/problem statement. N.B. The project task changes for each project.
N.B. The competitions for the M1/L1 courses are held on Saturday
mornings and M2/L2 on Fridays.

The MDP is a joint project between CUED and MIT to generate support material of multidisciplinary design projects. The website contains a large number of resources useful to students taking the IDP. In addition there is information relating to to the MDP reource disk that is available to all students involved with the IDP. A printable Manual is available.
Photographs of robots and teams from previous courses together with some videos of competition runs and student introductions. N.B. Photographs of robots are normally posted here on the day of the competition.
Contact details of the staff and TA's involved with the IDP.
The IDP project has been supported, directly or in kind, by a number of organisations since its inception in 1996, in particular:
|Boeing Corporation||Cambridge-MIT Institute||iEndian||NHK||Onecall / Farnell Premier Group|
|Omax Inc||Parametric Technology Corporation||Toby Churchill Ltd||TTP|
