One of my greatest pleasures of working in the Department of Engineering at Cambridge is to encourage and nurture new, exciting research and teaching activities. The Department provides remarkably fertile ground for new ideas. It has grown and developed consistently at the forefront of engineering since its foundation in 1875. We have steered a good course through our history by making academic creativity and rigour paramount, attracting the best academics and students in the world, and granting them considerable freedom, while applying structure, strategy and management with a light touch.
The Department is undoubtedly large, dynamic and successful, but it is hard to keep up with all that is happening. The aim of our new website is to make it easier to find out what is going on and how to join in. We have made a start, but there is still much to be done. We will continue work on the website through the next year, as we create more content on our new platform. I hope you enjoy exploring the Department both through this website and in person. Please make full use of all the contacts offered to help you to connect.
