EPOS System
The Department has an EPOS (electronic point of sale) system which may be
used to pay various internal charges (particularly those incurred in the
Canteen and for printing). Deposits may be made to
this in round sums (£5, £10, £20 etc) in cash or on-line
by credit/debit card. Cash payments may be made in our
canteen (please do not ask to do so during busy periods, i.e. lunch time)
and to the cashier in the Finance Office. Staff and students can monitor
the balance they have on the system and make on-line payments by going to
http://epos.eng.cam.ac.uk/
using their Raven password to gain access.
Use of the system in the Canteen is controlled by the University Card.
The Department usually obtains card details for all its members
automatically from the University Card Office but sometimes this process
breaks down and you will need to ask to have your card added to the
data we receive before you can use the system. Note that your Card is
simply used to identify you: no special EPOS information is stored on
the Card; and, if you get a new card, this will provide access to
exactly the same account (and balance) as the old card.
Users are normally expected to use up any remaining balance before
leaving the Department, however if for some reason this is not possible
then they may request a refund, up to a maximum of twenty pounds, from
the cashier in the Finance Office. The individual will need his/her
University card and be able to demonstrate that they are about to leave
the department.
