ParkingThe privilege of parking cars on the Main Site during the working day is restricted to authorised assistant staff, whose places are allotted individually on an order of application basis, and academic/academic related staff who have been issued with permits to park on a first come, first served basis. Persons who believe they qualify for a parking space may apply on form "Application Parking Permit" available from the Security Administrator, Roz Conyngham. There is no provision during working days for parking by family members or by anyone who does not have business in the Department. The Facilities Manager, as part of his duties, is responsible to the Secretary of Department (Finance) for overseeing parking, but the working of the system is largely dependent on goodwill and lack of selfishness among users. Wheel clamps will be applied to cars not parked in accordance with regulations. Parking Needs - Assessment CriteriaDetails of the criteria for the issue of Parking Permits are as follows:
Assistant StaffApplications should be made to the Security Administrator, where a waiting list is maintained. These places are allocated on the understanding that the user will be in all day for the whole year, except for holidays. Places must be occupied before 09:30, or the user will be assumed to be away. If a user goes out at lunchtime, the places must be re-occupied by 14:30. If a user's place is found to be occupied before 09:30 or during the lunch hour the procedure is to park in a visitor's place and report to Reception; the Head Porter will then investigate. If a user goes out temporarily on Department business during working hours, they may protect their parking place by borrowing a "No Parking" notice from the Head Porter. Academic Staff (must be University Officers as defined in the Reporter)Application for a parking permit should be made to the Security Administrator. There are no reserved places for holders of Permits lettered 'T'. Permit holders may occupy any parking bay labelled A, D, L and T, and after 09:30 in the morning and 14:30 in the afternoon any empty assistant's place. Please do not occupy assistants' places before 09:30 or during the lunch period of 12:30 - 14:30. Please do not occupy visitors' places at any time. Note: Unestablished Academic Research Staff are not entitled to parking permits. Visitor Car ParkingVisitor car parking spaces must be booked at reception in advance by a member of academic staff. To avoid embarrassment to visitors it is important to ensure that visitors are aware of how many spaces have been booked for them. Visitors' parking can only be booked in the designated visitor spaces. Reception staff members are not authorised to make other spaces available for this purpose. Visitors cannot book spaces for themselves; a member of the Department must make the request.Parking at Other TimesThe above regulations apply during the normal working day i.e. Mondays - Fridays 08:00-17:00 hrs. After 17:00 hrs, and on Saturdays and Sundays there are no restrictions on parking for any member of staff or student, providing the roadways are kept clear. Applications for bulk parking for societies, clubs, weddings etc, however should be made to the Secretary of the Department (Finance).
