Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering - Research

Information about current research projects in geotechnical engineering, which covers everything from earthquake damage and piling to pollution monitoring can be found on the Geotechnical group's home page.

Professor Robert Mair who is Head of this Research Division was a key player in a major project involving The Jubilee Line Extension to the London Underground. Read about the project, and how his research helped keep Big Ben upright during the excavations. This demonstrates the type of work civil engineers get involved with.

Structural engineers get involved with all sorts of problems ranging from the structure of DNA to why the Millennium Bridge wobbled. Current research projects can be viewed by looking at the relevant structures group home pages. Some examples of projects can be found on our 125th anniversary site.

Environmental engineering is an interdisciplinary subject, which is ideally suited to the multi-faceted education given to engineering students at Cambridge. A compilation of research projects falling into this category is presented on the environmental related research home page.
