Remote control design
You are an engineer/designer and you have been told to design a remote remote control for a TV.
You are expected to design the remote with the intention of targeting a specific kind of user depending on the task in hand.
You are expected to think about the following issues:
- The needs of the user
- The capabilities of the user
- The commercial viability of the remote control
You will make your decisions by considering these factors:
- The cost
- Its ease of use
- The percentage exclusion of potential users
- The functions it contains
- Its aesthetical stylishness
You will learn more about these issues as you proceed and your decisions will improve.
There will be 5 tasks which you try to find the most suitable remote control for the task. As you go along, select a remote control to view its features. Evaluate it if you think it is a good candidate for the task , you will find out how good it really is. Make it your final choice if you think that is the one for the task . You will then move to the next task until you finish all of them.
You are expected to ignore differences in the logos/text and names of the buttons. Assume that the same names/text have been used to characterise buttons on all the remote designs. You should only think about the size of the available space in which the logo/text would be placed.
