Disability Surveys

There is no absolute estimate of the number of disabled people in the UK because of the continuous nature of the concept of disability. The threshold above which people are classified as disabled will determine the number of people included. The positioning of the threshold between able-bodied and 'disabled' is essentially an arbitrary choice given the continuous nature of the range of population capabilities, but affects how many people are classified as falling into one category or the other.
