EDDA (Engineering Department Database for Administration) is the Department's main administrative database of people and includes all those work in the Department; e.g. Staff, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students, Visitors (other than very short term), and Embedded Researchers. Almost all the Department's people-related administrative processes depend on the data in EDDA, e.g. new arrivals, departures, undergraduate and postgraduate registration, access to the buildings, issuing of computer accounts and email identities, etc.
EDDA shares data with various other databases both Departmental, e.g. COMET for course management, and University-wide, e.g. CHRIS and CamSIS the Computing Service database Jackdaw. Processes are in place to maintain consistency between the data in the different databases and the general principle is that for each item of data one database holds the master copy and rest take copies of this.
As well as the specialist interfaces available in the various administrative offices which use and maintain it, EDDA data is also generally available in various forms, e.g. the internal and external lists of people, the "finger" command, an LDAP directory service (on ldap-serv.eng.cam.ac.uk), and the departmental directory on the new phones.
Divisional offices and computing staff have access to downloadable lists of expected postgraduates and other data. Other facilities for Divisional offices are also being developed.
The data in EDDA is maintained by various administrative offices but all can be reached for this purpose by email to edda-updates (at eng). If any of your data in the above lists or obtained from finger is incorrect please email edda-updates asking for it to be corrected.
