Control Group and Machine Intelligence Lab IT Manager

The role holder provides computer hardware and software support within the Information Engineering Division primarily to the Speech Group in the Machine Intelligence Laboratory, and also to the Control Group. The Division has traditionally been and continues to be an aggressive and innovative user of computing resources for research and teaching, and therefore requires intensive support by highly skilled and responsive Computer Officers.

The research of the Speech Group relies on a highly customized grid of computer servers (currently 80 nodes set to expand to over 200 over the next four years), and very large quantities of experimental data (currently 14TB [14,000GB] and growing by over 4TB per year). The role is also taking over more responsibility for computer hardware and software support for the Control Group in addition to existing responsibilities. The role holder reports to a member of academic staff with designated responsibility for computing for day-to-day line management; and to the Divisional IT manager for Divisional, policy and technical guidance.

Current role holder: Anna Langley
