Division A IT Manager
The role holder is responsible for IT support throughout the Energy, Fluid Mechanics and Turbomachinery Division. The Whittle Laboratory, which forms part of the Division but is on a separate site, has its own IT Manager who receives technical and strategic guidance, though not day to day line management, from the role holder.
The role holder is responsible for ensuring that the Division’s computer systems continue to meet the demands placed upon them by their users and for enabling researchers to use computers efficiently and handle data securely. The most important aspects of this are:
- to have the technical skills to design maintainable systems,
- teaching how to use the facilities in the most effective way,
- to have the personal skills to persuade people to accept change, and
- controlling the computing budgets.
The role holder also provides expert advice and practical skills to aid the design and development of Department-wide services.
The role holder reports to the Head of the Energy, Fluid Mechanics and Turbomachinery Division for day-to-day line management; and to the Deputy Head (Research Support) of the IT Services Division for IT policy and technical guidance.
Current role holder: Peter Benie
