Head of Division S

The role holder has overall responsibility to the Head of Department for the Department’s computing provision and strategy, and for the management of the Department’s computing staff. The role holder plays a central role in the development of Departmental computing policy and technical direction.

The Division is split into two roughly equally sized sections, one providing Department-wide services and the other support to the Department’s research groups and divisions. Each section is headed by a Deputy Head of the Division, who, with the role holder, form the Division’s senior management team. The role holder also leads the Planning Group, which is responsible for technical planning, and which comprises the Senior Management Team plus the Systems Manager, Network and Telecomms Manager, and the Information Services Manager.

The role holder is an ex-officio member of a number of high-level Departmental committees to advise on opportunities for exploiting IT throughout the Department, keep up-to-date with strategic requirements, receive feedback on the services provided, and facilitate liaison between the Division and the Department. The role holder also provides technical and computing policy advice to individual members of the Department at all levels.

The role holder must be a senior and experienced computer professional, capable of providing expert technical leadership and strategic management to all members of the Division as well as remaining professionally active through hands-on technical work of a highly complex nature.
