Pint of Science brings some of the most brilliant scientists to your local pub to discuss their latest research and findings with you. This is your chance to meet the people responsible for the future of science (and have a pint with them).

The festival, which takes place on May 20-22, will be held in Cambridge and in cities across the UK and around the world. Topics up for discussion in Cambridge range from combating cancer, to addressing climate change and the rise of robots, among others.

This year’s line-up includes Dr Iris Da Luz Batalha, Research Associate in Nanoscale Science. She will talk on nanotechnology in healthcare and will present some of her own research in the field of antimicrobial nanomedicine. Dr Da Luz Batalha will be speaking at The Castle Bar on Tuesday 21 May.

Alumnus Oliver Armitage will explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is being used to transform healthcare through neural engineering and how it can be integrated into the human body. Oliver is Co-founder and CSO of BIOS – a company that is “creating the open standard hardware and software interface between the human nervous system and AI”. He will illustrate the solutions BIOS and others in the field are creating and will set the scene as to what we can expect to see in the coming years. Oliver will be speaking at The Maypole on Monday 20 May. 

Josie Hughes, PhD student in the Machine Intelligence Laboratory, will discuss how modern robotics is taking inspiration from biology, from design and fabrication to longer term trends of biohybrid robotics. Josie will be speaking at The Maypole on Tuesday 21 May.

Alumnus Richard Shen, Reinforcement Learning Research Engineer at Wayve, will share how cutting-edge computer vision and AI software is teaching self-driving cars to drive like you do. Richard will be speaking at The Maypole on Tuesday 21 May.
