Every child in every era has dreams and aspirations that guide and drive them to taking up a profession. Many engineers in the past found the aeroplanes of the 1940s their inspiration, in the 1960s the moon landing and space exploration provided a strong magnet into aerospace engineering subjects. Today for many it is the thoroughbred racing cars at the front end of the Formula One grid that excite a new generation of engineers. The Department of Engineering has an enviable record not only in training the Technical Directors and top engineers in the sport, but also in providing some significant innovation and research that has advanced the technologies and shaped the regulations of today's competition as the new Cambridge Formula One website highlights.
The Department needs to continue attracting the highest calibre of students and the new website provides a summary of activities and successes over the last three or so years, targeted at gaining the attention of prospective students. Additionally it acts as a source for the Department's students interested in probing deeper into the subject matter, storing pertinent fourth year projects and presentations.
The new website can be found at:http://www-formula1.eng.cam.ac.uk
