The University of Cambridge and CentraleSupélec are celebrating ten years of their student exchange program.

This exchange allows students to see the world of engineering from the point of view of two complementary cultures and two educational systems. This gives them a much deeper and clearer perspective, while helping them grow and grow. For many of them, this year of study abroad has transformed their professional life.

Nearly 40 students have participated in this exchange program since its creation.

Students from the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge are welcomed for one year of study at CentraleSupélec, a Higher Education and Research Institution in France. The exchange students study the equivalent of their 3rd year. They follow a personalised programme, based on CentraleSupélec's 2nd year course, which mixes elective choices and innovation projects.

The CentraleSupélec's 2nd year students that are selected to go to Cambridge join the 3rd year Master of Engineering degree. They choose a major discipline from the nine offered in the curriculum, and supplement their engineering teaching with courses in economics and business and complementary modules. The students then return to their home institution to complete the last year of their studies.

"Participating in this exchange allowed me to broaden my horizons, I was able to experience living abroad and discover the cultural differences that exist between the two countries. It's also a rewarding experience both personally and academically, " says Maxime Leroy, who is currently in an exchange year at the University of Cambridge.

Students wishing to access the exchange programme must meet well-defined academic criteria of excellence, particularly in the disciplines chosen in their host institution but also in mathematics and languages.

The two institutions offer a "discovery" exchange programme every year and each welcome a dozen students who learn, for one week, life on the campus of the partner institution.

"We are very proud to continue this excellent partnership with the University of Cambridge, a key strategic partner for our international exchanges," says Marc Zolver, Director of International Relations at CentraleSupélec.

CentraleSupélec has programmes of study with Cambridge in the fields of physics, pure and applied mathematics and industrial engineering.

"More than 10 years ago, we began to talk about the idea of an exchange between our two schools. At that time, I did not imagine the remarkable impact it would have on the students involved. This exchange allows students to see the world of engineering from the point of view of two complementary cultures and two educational systems. This gives them a much deeper and clearer perspective, while helping them grow and grow. For many of them, this year of study abroad has transformed their professional life." Professor Richard Prager, Head of the Department of Engineering.
