Inspiring research through industrial collaboration
The Department of Engineering has an unparalleled record of translating its original research to industrial and business practice through collaboration, patenting and licensing, entrepreneurship, and teaching. This theme aims to accelerate and improve this process, but without killing the essential creativity and academic freedom that distinguish our work. We aim to learn from the Department’s experience of successfully executing knowledge transfer and capture best practice, through close dialogue with academics and sponsors. We will embed best practice in the Department’s everyday processes. These activities will be the subject of the Department’s academic research in design, innovation and manufacturing. The results of this research will drive experiments in knowledge transfer to gain further improvements. Successes will be publicised and findings shared widely across academic and industrial sectors.
