Mission Statement

The mission of Cambridge University Engineering Department is to foster and develop academic excellence across a wide range of engineering and at all levels of study.

It will:

• provide education of the highest quality at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, and so produce graduates equipped to play leading roles in industry, the professions and public service;
• encourage and pursue theoretical, strategic and applied research of the highest quality across the whole range of engineering;
• continue to attract outstanding students, irrespective of race, background, gender or physical disability, both from within the UK and from overseas;
• develop new areas of teaching and research in response to the advance of scholarship and the needs of the community;
• maintain the position of Cambridge as one of the world's leading university engineering departments.

For undergraduates the Department offers courses leading to Parts IA and IB of the Engineering Tripos in the first and second years respectively, followed by courses leading to Parts IIA and IIB of the Engineering Tripos or Parts I and II of the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos (MET) for the third and fourth years respectively.

For graduates, the Departments offers a number of one-year taught courses leading to a postgraduate certificate or the MPhil degree, and training in research normally leading to the PhD degree.
