TEACHING COMMITTEES
[Note: Current membership for all the Teaching Committees can be found on the Undergraduate Teaching Homepages at:http://www.eng.cam.ac.uk/teaching/committee/0ctte_contents.html".]
The Engineering Tripos and the Manufacturing Engineering Tripos (MET) are managed by the Teaching Committee which reports to the Faculty Board of Engineering. The Teaching Committee is chaired by the Head of Department and has fifteen members including the chairs of the CUED Subject Groups, and representatives of the Coursework Committee, the Directors of Studies Committee and the Language Unit. When subject-group chairs are unable to attend meetings of the Teaching Committee they appoint a deputy to represent them. The Teaching Committee may co-opt additional members and may on occasion invite other members of staff for discussion of particular items.
Each of the Subject Groups within the Department has their own committee. The Chair and Secretary of each subject group are elected annually by the members of the group at a long vacation meeting. Any member of staff may join any of the subject groups by writing to the Chair. The present members of each group are listed on the relevant Subject Group pages:
The Coursework Committee is chaired by the Deputy Head (Teaching), joined by the Secretary of the Teaching Committee and the Director of Undergraduate Education, together with those members of staff in overall charge of the main coursework activities. The members of the Coursework Committee will elect annually at the Easter term meeting a member to represent them on the Teaching Committee.
Coursework Committee - Representative Groups cover Computing, Exposition and the Language Programme for Engineers. The Chairs are members of the Coursework Committee to which they report.
The Fourth-Year Project Co-ordinators Committee meets when needed for liaison purposes between the subject groups. It consists of an Overall Co-ordinator who acts as chair, and five Co-ordinators representing the Subject Groups.
The Staff-Student Joint Committee meets each term to discuss any matters relating to undergraduate teaching or postgraduate research . Minutes are available from the Undergraduate Teaching Homepages.
The Directors of Studies Committee co-ordinates Departmental and College teaching, and Admissions. Its members elect annually a representative to serve on the Teaching Committee.
The Graduate Teaching Committee oversees graduate courses in the department.
