Role of SSJC Officers
SSJC publicity officers/year group representatives (5 x 2 people):
Two people for each student group: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th years and graduate students.
Act as first point of contact and representatives for their student groups,
and notify/consult their cohort about any group-specific news/issues.
First year reps have particular roles:
- advise the editor of the Fresher's Guide on useful updates to include for first year students.
- give a 5 minute talk about the SSJC to the new first year students on the morning of the first Wednesday of Michaelmas full term.
Webmaster and Fast Feedback message handler (2 people)
Maintain SSJC Website, posting notices of interest and minutes of meetings,
and emailing student cohorts with news items, and useful reminders.
Act as first contact for any SSJC related email.
Editor of "Engineering at Cambridge: a Fresher's Guide"
Revise the Fresher's Guide booklet over the Long Vacation in time for printing in September.
Administrator of Student Mentoring Scheme
Invite volunteers to act as mentors, and match mentors to IA students who ask for one.
Booksale organisers (2 people)
Hold book collections in the Easter and Michaelmas terms, and maintain database of stock.
Hold book sale in the Michaelmas term, and summarise finances for the Teaching Office.
Notify students when money for sold books may be collected from the Teaching Office, or unsold books may be collected.
Representative on Departmental Safety Committee
One student member attends meetings of the Departmental Safety Committee.
Liaise on behalf of SSJC over any safety matters.
Representatives on Departmental Library Committee (2 people)
One undergraduate and one graduate member attend meetings of the Departmental Library Committee.
Represent the SSJC on any matters related to library provision, and Web access to journals,
in Engineering across the University.
CUES and other representatives
CUES president (or deputy) automatically attend SSJC meetings to discuss issues of mutual interest
(e.g. Project Expo, in the Easter Term)
Additional students may be co-opted to the SSJC from time-to-time, for example,
the organisers of specific additional activities (Project Expo, Curriculum Consultations etc).
