Module 4A11 - Turbomachinery II

3A1 and 3A3 are strongly recommended; 4A3 essential

12 lectures + 4 work slots (including examples classes)

Lecture Syllabus / Written exam (1.5 hours) / Start of Easter Term / 75 %
Coursework / Report / 15 days after experiment / 25 %

AIMS

To provide a more thorough understanding of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional flow fields within axial-flow and radial-flow turbomachines. To provide an appreciation of current design methods and the parameters which determine the overall layout and design of turbomachines.

LECTURE SYLLABUS

Turbomachine aerodynamics and installations

COURSEWORK

A computational exercise using standard numerical methods for turbomachinery design and analysis. To demonstrate blade-blade flows and hub-casing flows.
