AIMS

To equip students with an understanding of theory and practice in three aspects of machine design, with emphasis on automotive engineering applications and state-of-the-art developments.

COURSEWORK

Read, understand and review a technical paper associated with one of the three topics. Undertake related reading. Communicate findings in a verbal presentation.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course students should be able to do the following:

Understand the theory and its limitations.
Use the theory to design the machine element to perform a specified duty.
Describe practical problems associated with the design and operation of the machine element.
Critically review published literature, and identify application-specific issues.
