AIMS

Information technology (IT)is seen as having radically changed the internal operations of organisations, the structure of the markets in which they compete and both the opportunities as well as the challenges facing everyone who works in a contemporary organization. This course offers a critical assessment of these changes and of the role of technology in social and organisational change more generally.

COURSEWORK

OBJECTIVES

This course introduces you to a set of topics on information technology and its impact in business and society. At the end of this course, students should be able to:

• Analyze how technological changes relate to oganisational and social change
• Compare and evaluate the strategic options that IT presents to organizations
• Understand what digital goods and network markets are
• Understand the distinctive character of digital artefacts
• Critically asses claims of the effects of IT on organisations and society.
