Multi-sector Databases
There appears to be an exponential growth in the number of on-line buyer guides where company information can be accessed by searching through product fields or in many cases by company. Below you will find a a number of these databases and a short description of what you might find on the their sites.
UK Engineering Employers Database "APPLEGATE"
Applegate provide a Directory of Engineering companies covering the U.K. & the Republic of Ireland. It has a number of engineering categories but appears to be very comprehensive in the ELECTRONICS field. It does also cover Chemical, Construction and Mechanical Engineering
UK Companies and Products database, "KELLY'S"
Kelly's
is the Buyer's Bible and has 150,000 companies listing a short description,
an address and telephone number, plus in many cases web links. You can search
using a number of criteria including location as well as
products/services. If you enter the name of a company you know in the
town where you want to work, Kelly's then has a link which list all
the other companies in that town. Complicated, but neat if you can work it.
Near.co.uk
Near.co.uk
has an A - Z of categories which includes several engineering related organisations.
Once you have selected a category, you are invited to click a geographic reference and it finds
a list of companies who are situated close to the reference given, e.g Engineering Consultants near Lichfield.
Information given includes a postal address and telephone number, and in some cases a live web link.
Hoover
Hoovers is a global database that can be searched using location city & products and is especially good for China. Has contact names but you need to buy into their subscriptionn before they provide you with direct links.
"KOMPASS" International Buyers Guide
KOMPASS
is another Buyer's Bible and claims to have 1.8 million companies listing a short description,
an address and telephone number, plus in many cases web links.
However the search is limited to company name or product only.
THE ENGINEER
The Engineer is a web site covering engineering topics from a number of angles and also runs a job finding service. It also includes an A - Z of employers with contact details. It is just a straight alphabetical list.
