Industrial Experience
Time Periods
The Engineering Department insists that all Engineering undergraduates complete a period of 8 weeks in total of Industrial Experience before B.A. graduation at the end of the third year of the tripos. A minimum four weeks of the C U E D Industrial Experience requirement must be completed BEFORE THE END OF THE SUMMER VACATION immediately following the FIRST YEAR OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES in order to graduate successfully with Honours from Part 1B Engineering Tripos taken at the end of Year 2.If students stay on to read Engineering Part 2A Tripos or Manufacturing Engineering Part 1 Tripos, taken at the end of the third year of the Engineering course, a further four weeks is required to enable the student to graduate successfully with Honours. However, this 4 weeks can be completed at any stage prior to the deadline & the majority of students complete the 8 weeks necessary to graduate successfully from the course during the long vacation at the end of the First Year and before the beginning of the Second Year of the course.
The regulations are slightly different for Migrants who transfer from another Cambridge University Department at the end of Part 1B tripos taken at the end of the Second Year of amn alternative Cambridge Tripos, but prior to the Third Year of the Engineering course. CUED will also credit any relevant Industrial Experience undertaken prior to arrival at the University. Furthermore, students are encouraged and assisted to complete more than the minimum requirements to increase & improve their knowledge & skills of their subject area prior to graduation.
