Japanese for Beginners

Course details
Course syllabus

Course Objectives:
  • To acquire the sounds of the Japanese language.
  • To acquire introductory grammar and functions.
  • To acquire Hiragana and Katakana (Japanese writing).
  • To develop communicative skills using the vocabulary and grammar.
  • To develop strategies for learning Kanji (Chinese characters).
  • To gain knowledge of the culture as it relates to linguistic information introduced.

Intermediate Japanese

Intermediate 1 (Lower) Syllabus (Michaelmas term)

Intermediate 2 (upper) Syllabus (Michaelmas term)

Course Objectives:
  • To acquire listening, reading, speaking and writing skills at an intermediate level in colloquial and contemporary Japanese.
  • To acquire grammar, vocabulary, and expressions as well as communication and interpersonal skills in realistic situations.
  • To acquire more than 50 Kanji (Chinese characters).
  • To gain knowledge of the culture as it relates to linguistic information introduced.

Advanced Japanese

Advanced Syllabus (Michaelmas term)

Aims and objectives are to extend the knowledge of the culture in the country in particular in the fields of technology, to develop further all four skills, putting particular emphasis on individual needs and to encourage students to learn more independently.
