Denise Chappell
Coordinator of English
Denise holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Southampton. She has taught English as a Foreign Language in UK, Austria and France. In Finland she specialised in teaching English in the business and engineering sectors. She has carried out research in classroom interaction and spoken discourse in telecommunication focusing on patient healthcare. Since 1995 she has taught applied linguistics in higher education and also held the post of Course Director for the M.A.Applied Linguistics at Anglia Ruskin University. Her current research interests include WrittenText Analysis, Communication Strategies and English for Academic Purposes. She has published papers in applied linguistics journals and contributed to collections on Conversation Analysis.

Mikiko Ashikari
Coordinator of Japanese
Mikiko Ashikari read Japanese Literature and Linguistics in college and received her teaching certificate from the Ministry of Education in Japanese. Her primary interest is in pedagogical theories and methods for teaching Japanese language as a Foreign Language to the students in tertiary education. She has a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, and has published several articles about social changes within contemporary Japan. One of her articles was awarded the Daiwa Japan Forum Prize.

Sebastián Bianchi
Coordinator of Spanish
Studied English Language and Literature (B.Ed.) in Corrientes, Argentina, where he carried out research into Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language. Completed a Master's degree in Literary Studies at De Montfort University, England. He has lectured on Scots, Irish and English literary works, as well as on the writing of teaching material for Spanish as a Foreign Language in Argentina. Since 1995, he has taught Spanish Language and Culture at all levels at a range of institutions in Cambridge, including the University's School of Education, Homerton College, Churchill College and the Language Centre, where he is also Lector. He writes interactive material and courses for the University and the BBC, and books to learn and teach Spanish, apart from publishing historic fiction in his country, Argentina.

Shaomian Deng
Coordinator and teacher of Chinese
Shaomian Deng studied English language (BA) and linguistics (MA) in Beijing Foreign Studies University. She also teaches Chinese at School of Oriental and African Studies of London University and the Open University. She is a Chinese examiner for Edexcel and assessor for Institute of Interpreters and Translators (ITI). She translated Anne of Green Gables, which was published by China Translation and Publishing Corporation.
