Carl Zeiss Video Competition at the Department of Engineering 2011

Winning Photo 2010 - 'Aircraft engine flame-out'
2010 winning photo

This year's video competition, open to all staff and students in the Department, is sponsored by Carl Zeiss (electron microscopy division) who have kindly donated the following prizes:

The winning video will feature on the Department's website, and be publicised in the newsletter, plasma screen, posters and more.

This is the first year we have had a video competition and we hope the winners will receive the same national and international press coverage as the winners from the photography competition do.

We are searching for videos that relate to research or teaching in the Department or engineers out in the field, which may be beautiful, fascinating, intriguing, amusing, or possibly all of these things.

We will use a very high proportion of the entries in a web gallery on Vimeo, giving acknowledgements wherever they are used.

The panel of judges include Roberto Cipolla Professor of Information Engineering, Dr Allan McRobie, Dame Professor Ann Dowling - Head of Department, and Philip Guildford - Director of Research.

The rules are as follows:

  1. The video must be sent to video-competition@eng.cam.ac.uk using yousendit a free file transfer service that allows you to send your large files by uploading them through a web browser from your desktop http://www.yousendit.com/plans/lite or send your files on CD or DVD to Jacqueline Saggers, Room BE0-23, Baker Building, Trumpington Street, by 1st July 2011
  2. The entrant must include the following statement in the text of the email:
I have checked with my manager/supervisor/DoS __________________ that I have permission to enter the attached video(s) in the competition and give the Department of Engineering the right to publish the video(s) on its website and elsewhere
  3. The entrant must also provide:
    1. title
    2. description of the video
