Mathematical Programming, Series B Title: Guest editors: Corresponding Guest Editor: Scope: Attracting submissions (e.g., target authors): Target number of papers: single volume of 5-9 papers, with max of 25 pages/paper. Call for papers: Include a statement to the effect that “Papers will be refereed to the standard of Mathematical Programming, Series A. Due to limits in page volume, we are requesting that all papers be submitted using MP style files, and conform to the 25 page maximum. The necessary LaTeX files can be downloaded at HYPERLINK "http://www.eng.cam.ac.uk/~dr241/MPB/MPB-Springer-latex-style-files.zip" www.eng.cam.ac.uk/~dr241/MPB/MPB-Springer-latex-style-files.zip.” Guidelines for Proposals for a special issue of Mathematical Programming, Series B Guest editors: At least two are required, at least one of whom should be senior enough to “guarantee” quality of accepted papers. For more than two guest editors, a corresponding guest editor is suggested to agree standards between guest editors and streamline communication between MPB and guest editors. Quality of papers is paramount, so guest editors of high academic standing will increase the chances of proposals being accepted. Scope and Title: Special issues must be focused around specific research themes. What makes these topics exciting? Novelty? Bringing together two or more areas? New application areas of established techniques? Note that titles of special issues should reflect research themes but generally exclude names of conferences, groups or individuals. Attracting submissions: Please list some target authors. Is the special issue associated with a conference? Will invitations be made to submit to the special issue? Closed or open invitations? Target number of papers: A standard volume contains 130–215 pages, with a little flexibility on this range. Given papers of not more than 25 pages, this amounts to 5–9 papers plus front matter. Proposals for double volumes will be entertained in exceptional circumstances. Call for papers: Guest editors will draft a "call for papers" for their special issue, in consultation with the editor in chief. The call defines the scope of the issue, gives a deadline for submissions, and gives a target date for completion of the first round of reviews. The call for papers must include a statement to the effect that “Papers will be refereed to the standard of Mathematical Programming, Series A. Due to limits in page volume, we are requesting that all papers be submitted using MP style files, and conform to the 25 page maximum. The necessary LaTeX files can be downloaded at www.eng.cam.ac.uk/~dr241/MPB/MPB-Springer-latex-style-files.zip.” Relationship with Mathematical Programming, Series A: Any paper in process at MPB can, with the authors’ permission, be forwarded to MPA via the EIC for MPB, together with all correspondence. MPA will then assume responsibility for that paper, including the final decision regarding publication. This forwarding scheme is to allow, e.g., faster publication of MPB issues by passing on manuscripts that require substantial revision after their first review, or to deal gracefully with excess volume. Guest editors may alert authors, on invitation or submission of manuscripts, to the possibility that manuscripts may be forwarded to MPA (with authors’ permission). Revised September 201
