Introduction
I am a researcher in the Photonic Communication
System Group in the Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics (CAPE) at the University of Cambridge.
I am also the chairman for the
branch of Mexico of the St. Catharine’s College
Society. The branch aims to promote activities of alumni of the
college from or in Mexico. Recently, we have been
promoting further links between Mexico and the college in academics and
science (more information).
I was a post-doctoral research
fellow at the Centre for optics, photonics and lasers (COPL) in Laval University, Quebec, Canada. From March
2005 to Feb. 2007.
I was born in Mexico City. I obtained my B.Sc. degree in
electronic engineering -major telecommunications- for the Universidad Autónoma Metropolita-Iztapalapa.
From 1995 to 2000, I worked as system engineer in NEC de Mexico, a branch of NEC Corporation of Japan
in optical transmission and access systems for Mexico and Central America countries.
I finished my Ph.D. degree in
March 2005 at the Engineering Department of the University of Cambridge. My studies at Cambridge were sponsored by the National
Council of Science and Technology of Mexico CONACyT.
In addition of my research work
in England and Canada, I have extensively promoted the
Mexican culture and academic links as former president of the Cambridge University Mexican Society and
one of the founders of the Mexican Students Society of
the United Kingdom.
Finally, as a personal note, I
used to do lot of sport, (emphasised used to!). I am a brown belt in Karate Do-Shinkan, play Baseball in a Mexican semi-professional
league and played and studied drums and percussions for 3 years. Now I play
guitar just to enjoy Mexican boleros and popular songs!
