Introduction

Dr Matteo Galli is a Reasearch Associate to Cambridge University Engineering Department. He is in the Centre for Micromechanics Group in the Mechanics and Materials Division. He holds a M.S. degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, (2003, with a thesis entitled "Microstructural Analysis of Ceramic Composites by Finite Elements in Hybrid Formulation") and Ph.D. degree in Mechanics from EPFL, Switzerland, (2007, with a thesis entitled "The Constitutive Response of Brazing Alloys and the Residual Stresses in Ceramic-Metal Joints"). He was awarded a Swiss National Science Foundation fellowship for prospective researchers which allowed him to join Cambridge University Engineering Department in february 2008. His CV in pdf format can be downloaded here.

Research

Dr Galli is collaborating with Dr Michelle L. Oyen. The project has the objective of establishing a methodology for the assessment of the time-dependent response of biomimetic bone-like nanocomposites. The characterization of the material behaviour is carried out according to a combined experimental-numerical multiscale approach.
