Biography

Miles Stopher is a research associate in the Department of Engineering and acting Director of Studies for Natural Sciences at Jesus College. His research interests include the design of nanostructured materials, from quantum mechanics to thermokinetics, for applications in extreme environments, radiation damage modelling, hydrogen embrittlement, and the engineering and safety of integral and passive small modular reactors. He lectures the Nuclear Materials module for Part III materials scientists and nuclear engineers on the MPhil in Nuclear Energy. Prior to his arrival at Cambridge, he worked for Rolls-Royce on the design of the Royal Navy’s Successor Class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines.
