Biography

Peter is the Research Support Manager in the Department of Engineering, with oversight and responsibility for all research grant matters and running the Research Support Office – supporting academics and the department on all matters through the grant life cycle. He joined the Dept in June 2023. Before this, Peter was a Programme Manager in the Dept of Medicine at University of Cambridge for two years running a Covid-19 global genomics training programme (COG-Train), a collaboration between COG-UK and Wellcome Connecting Science. Prior to that Peter worked as a Scientific Project Manager for four years for a research consortium developing antigenically advanced influenza vaccines (Department of Zoology, University of Cambridge) and before that as a scientific consultant in the field of marine ecology for seven years.

Department role and responsibilities

As the Research Support Manager I have oversight and responsibility for the Engineering Research Support Office (ERSO), a one stop shop for academics regarding all aspects of grant management across the grant lifecycle, from application to audit and close-out. As such I sit at the interface between the academic research community, the department and the central university acting as a liaison and conduit.  I support our team's service delivery and am actively involved in development of these services and systems, performance monitoring, resource allocation and scheduling of work.
