This wide-ranging research programmes seeks to understand how companies - from technology start-ups to multinational manufacturers - and national governments can deliver sustainable economic growth.

Key areas of research look at how companies define and achieve their strategic objectives thorough technology management, performance measurement and developing new service-based business models. An applied policy research programme explores what makes national innovation systems effective at translating new science and engineering ideas into novel technologies and emerging industries.

Strategy and Policy also encompasses a number of other research areas, such as: how multinational companies can configure their global value networks to achieve competitive advantage and how industrial ecosystem mapping techniques can help policymakers support high value manufacturing sectors; understanding the impact both government policy and corporate strategy has on industrial sustainability; and the education and development of practitioners in manufacturing industry roles.
