The Cambridge Engineering Design Centre celebrated its 25th anniversary

The Cambridge Engineering Design Centre (EDC) 25th birthday party was attended by staff, students, and alumni from across the UK and Europe.

For more than twenty‐five years the Cambridge Engineering Design Centre has undertaken fundamental and applied research to generate knowledge that improves the design process.

Professor John Clarkson

In the 25 years since it was established by Professors David Newland, Mike Ashby and Ken Wallace, over 300 people have been part of the EDC.

From the initial purpose of making Engineering Design Methods a visible part of the undergraduate syllabus, through the development of a world class research centre by the founders, it has grown under Professor John Clarkson's leadership to a group of over 60 staff and students covering wide range of topics, including: automotive, aeronautical, product, computational, healthcare and inclusive design; knowledge, change, process and design management; design practice; and intelligent interactive systems design.

Its main purpose is to undertake fundamental and applied research to generate knowledge that improves the design process.
