Engineering Interact

Educational Software developed by an engineering student for his fourth year project, has recently been accepted on to the National Grid for Learning, a major website used by teachers to access freely available resources.

Peter Stidwill, with support from Aspiration Raising and Active Community funding, has been able to extend his fourth year project, to develop on-line teaching resources aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils (7-11 year olds) to cover more topics. The educational software now covers the teaching of 'Light','Sound' and 'Forces and Motion'. It relates the fundamental science principles taught to engineering, by showing how engineers use science.

The software is freely available from the Department's Outreach website.

Student Volunteers have taken the software home throughout the year and demonstrated it in their local Primary schools, to spread awareness. It has also been used as part of a joint project with Homerton, recently, to stimulate a group of gifted and talented school children from Rotherham.

Any volunteers wishing to demonstrate use of the software in their local schools or to a teacher, are invited to contact Peter Stidwill or Joy Warde, the Department's Outreach Officer.
