Feiyang Liu

Feiyang Liu, a PhD student in the Micromechanics Centre of the Department, has won the Superior Student Paper Award in the 26th Annual Conference of the Tire Society held in Akron, Ohio, USA, for his paper entitled “Prediction of Tread Block Forces for Free-rolling Tyres”.

Feiyang Liu is currently working under the supervision of Dr Michael Sutcliffe on tribology of car tyres. The deliverables from his PhD work containing a tyre contact mechanics model will be used by Dr Will Graham’s team in Division A of the Department to predict unsteady hub forces and consequently improve interior noise level of passenger vehicles.

This research project is sponsored by Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and benefits from the financial and technical support from its industrial partners including Land Rover, Jaguar Cars Ltd and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (Luxembourg Technical Centre).
