The Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) and Wolfson College held a topping out ceremony on Thursday 18th December, for a purpose-designed facility to allow Wolfson and the IfM to expand their educational programmes for industry. The £3m building is a partnership between Wolfson and the IfM.
The ceremony was led by Dr Gordon Johnson, President of Wolfson, and Ms Judith Portrait, a trustee of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, which has contributed significantly to the creation of the building.
The building will allow programmes to be run year-round,providing a fifty-seat lecture room, six syndicate rooms, a common room, thirty large en-suite rooms and twelve standard en-suite rooms, plus two flats for course leaders or visiting fellows.
The IfM's flagship Manufacturing Leaders Programme (MLP) and its Advanced Course in Design, Manufacture and Management (ACDMM) are already established at Wolfson. The IfM's courses include teaching on Strategy and Performance, International Manufacturing, Economic Policy, Technology Management, Industrial Sustainability, Production Processes, Decision Support, and Automation and Control. As the College and the IfM plan to establish further industrial outreach programmes for post-experience, career-integrated education, the new building will help them to deliver high quality teaching and conference facilities.
