Undergraduate Johannes Theron has won a prestigious Renault F1 internship. Only 1 intern was chosen in the very competitive selection process and this is the first time that an undergraduate from the University of Cambridge has had an internship with Renault F1 Aero. The University was selected last year (along with Bristol) as one of Renault F1 Aero’s two partner universities.

Engineers take a particularly privileged position in society in that they heavily influence major developments of our world. The desire and responsibility to make this influence positive, efficient, and sustainable is my main motivator.

Johannes spoke about his internship, engineering and what the future holds;
I heard about the internship opportunity through the Department. Naturally, taking a year out merits some very careful deliberation, but I felt qualified enough for working in such a highly technical role to be greatly beneficial for my future aspirations.

Engineering is a profession I naturally targeted through my interests in the numerical and physical sciences, though an early appreciation for the profound impact that fluid interactions have on our daily lives gave focus to the direction of my specialisation and possible career paths.
My immediate plans are to finish my degree. After this, I will be able to make a very well informed decision on whether to continue on into research and further academia, or industry. I would like to do both throughout my career, to develop new ideas and then have the chance to implement them in industry.

Engineers take a particularly privileged position in society in that they heavily influence major developments of our world. The desire and responsibility to make this influence positive, efficient, and sustainable is my main motivator.
