'Whittle - the Jet Pioneer' documentary on the History Channel

Sir Frank Whittle (1907-1996) known as the inventor of the jet engine who gained a BA with first class honours in the Mechanical Sciences Tripos here in the Department in 1936, is featured in a documentary entitled 'Whittle – the Jet Pioneer'.

The core of this 'fascinating documentary' (Radio Times) is an exclusive interview with Sir Frank Whittle filmed with Quanta films in 1986. It also contains contributions from his son Ian Whittle, veteran test pilot Captain Eric Brown RN and Hans von Ohain, who designed Germany's first jet engine.

'Whittle - the Jet Pioneer' is being shown on the History Channel on Saturday 10th December at 9.00 pm and on Sunday 11th December at 12 noon. A feature-length version with extras will soon be available on DVD from Quanta. A clip of the documentary can be viewed on the History Channel website.
