Research Facilities in Information Engineering

The Information Engineering Division is mainly engaged in computational modelling requiring very substantial computing resources and all its research groups make extensive use of the Department’s facilities in the South Wing Computer Room Small Research Facility.  Some groups also collaborate with others to gain access to specialised facilities such as the engine cells in the Energy Group and the ‘wet labs’ in the Departments of Plant Sciences and Genetics.

The Division has:

  • a sensorimotor research laboratory equipped with virtual reality systems with state-of-the-art robotic interfaces
  • a motion capture laboratory
  • medical imaging facilities
  • acoustic rooms for audio and speech research

The Division is also in the process of setting up a bio-robotics laboratory to support the work of the new University Lecturer in Mechatronics.
