The 8th Cambridge International Manufacturing Symposium

A two-day event, which is organised by Cambridge University's Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) on behalf of the International Manufacturing Network (IMNet), will take place at New Hall, Cambridge, on 25-26 September.

The Cambridge International Manufacturing Symposium is a prime opportunity for senior industrialists and researchers in this field to take time out to explore current issues and learn from each other's experiences.

Professor Mike Gregory, Head of the IfM and its Centre for International Manufacturing

The symposium will examinine how to exploit the potential of international supply networks from both the senior industrialist and academic perspectives.

The choice of international supply network design and its efficient operation are critical to a company's competitive position. Many large companies already have international manufacturing networks. Globalisation pressures are forcing other companies to consider locating their manufacturing operations offshore to access new markets or achieve lower costs. However, these drivers are also forcing companies to re-evaluate which manufacturing activities they should control directly and, in some sectors, a clear pattern of specialisation and collaboration is emerging. This event is an opportunity to learn from the practical experience of leading-edge companies as well as the latest thinking from researchers working in this field.

Prof Mike Gregory, Head of the IfM and its Centre for International Manufacturing said: "The Cambridge International Manufacturing Symposium is a prime opportunity for senior industrialists and researchers in this field to take time out to explore current issues and learn from each other's experiences. The calibre of the delegates also creates an invaluable networking experience."
