Department scoops SET Awards

Three students and a lecturer from the Department were honoured at this year's Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) Awards.

The SET Student of the Year Awards recognise outstanding achievement in science, engineering and technology by undergraduates at UK universities.

Rachel Trimble won the Engineering and Technology Board (etb) Award for the Science, Engineering and Technology Student of the Year (overall winner). She also won The World Leadership Forum Award for the Best Electronic Engineering Student, judged by the Institution of Electrical Engineers, for her work on 'Electronic Windsock and Display Module'.

Peter Winslow won The Institution of Civil Engineers Award for the Best Civil Engineering Student, judged by the Institution of Civil Engineers, for his work on 'Aeroelasticity of Flexible Structures'.

Russ MacMillan won The GKN Award for the Best Mechanical Engineering Student, judged by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, for 'Analysis and Automation of a DEFRA Blood Test Programme'.

In addition, Dr Paul Robertson from the Department won The World Leadership Forum Award for the Lecturer of the Year.

The awards were presented in a ceremony at London's Guildhall. The winning student in each category received a trophy and £500. As the highest-scoring student overall, Rachel Trimble also received an additional trophy and a cheque for a further £1,500.
