At an awards ceremony at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) on Tuesday 25 October, six members of the Department received awards for research papers published in 2004, as follows:

T K Hsieh Award (established 1979): Subhamoy Bhattacharya, Professor Malcolm Bolton and Dr Gopal Madabhushi for the Geotechnique paper 'An alternative mechanism of pile failure in liquefiable deposits during earthquakes'
