A taskforce set up by the School of Technology to simplify and streamline grant management processes using a new transformative system, has been recognised in the University’s Professional Services Awards 2024.

Since Worktribe launched, a collaborative approach has supported enhanced knowledge sharing across a range of research support matters within the School of Technology, maximising research income success.

The School of Technology Worktribe Readiness Group emerged as the team winners for their “exceptional collaboration and dedication”. The group ensured the smooth rollout of Worktribe – from reviewing University processes to thoroughly testing the grants management system – resulting in a launch that united members across departments and one that has been widely praised.

The Department of Engineering is one of five departments that make up the School of Technology.

Peter Thomas-McEwen, Research Support Manager in the Engineering Research Support Office at the Department of Engineering, is part of the Worktribe Readiness Group.

He said: “Aside from working with a wonderful team of dedicated and knowledgeable research support leaders to make sure Worktribe was a success, one of the key long-term benefits for me, was the strengthening of interdepartmental cooperation.

“Since Worktribe launched, this collaborative approach has supported enhanced knowledge sharing across a range of research support matters within the School of Technology, maximising research income success, and it will continue to do so into the future.”

The other members of the group include: Helen Francis (Department of Computer Science and Technology); Tom Matthams (Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology); Jane Batten (Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL)); Katie Jones (Cambridge Judge Business School); Daphne Ioannidis and Richard Henning Brodersen (Research Operations Office); Shui Lam (School of Technology); and Tim Laws (Worktribe Project Lead).

Peter added: “Although I was the Engineering representative, I could not have contributed without a lot of input and parallel discussion with my staff in the Engineering Research Support Office, who were also instrumental in ensuring we had a smooth rollout when the system went live.”

A new readiness group is now being formed ahead of the Worktribe post-award rollout in summer 2025.
