The Whittle Laboratory was officially opened, as the 'Science Research Council Turbomachinery Laboratory', on 25 May 1973, by Air Commodore Sir Frank Whittle.
A 'virtual open day' has been created on the Department's web site to allow potential students who are unable to attend the actual event to get a flavour of the action.
A reception was held in the gardens of the Vice Chancellor's residence in Latham Road to celebrate the 50th year of Prince Philip as Patron of the Cambridge University Engineers' Association.
