Dr Eugene Shwageraus, Course Director
The MPhil in Nuclear Energy, based in the Department of Engineering, is a one-year taught masters degree course in nuclear technology, business and policy, and industry practice. It has two terms of taught materials and a long research project over a period of six months.
The course is a collaboration between the Departments of Engineering, Materials Science & Metallurgy, Earth Sciences and the Cambridge Judge Business School.
The MPhil course was launched in December 2010 to teach nuclear technology, business and policy subjects at postgraduate level. The first cohort began their studies in October 2011, and more than 100 students have been educated to date from the UK and abroad.
The course is supported by an Industry Club drawn from leading companies that are active in the UK nuclear market.
Dr Eugene Shwageraus, Course Director, said the Energy Institute, the professional body for the energy industry, had been complimentary about the structure and content of the MPhil in Nuclear Energy, and had commented positively on the enthusiasm of both students and staff.
“This accreditation by the Energy Institute is a great achievement for the course,” he said. “It confirms the top quality education we provide in partnership with our Industry Club members and shows our determination to train the nuclear leaders of tomorrow.”
