Dr AC (Ricky) Metaxas has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at this summer's Global Congress on Microwave Applications held at Long Beach, California.
I had no idea that I was to receive an award from my peers. It was totally unexpected.
Dr Metaxas
The award recognises the outstanding contributions made by Dr Metaxas to the field of electrical engineering, specialising in the use of radio frequency and microwave energy.
Dr Metaxas was seconded from the electricity supply industry to the Engineering Department during the period 1982-2002 in order to teach and research methods of more effective use of electricity in industry. His book, Foundations of Electroheat: a Unified Approach, formed the basis of his 4th year EIST lectures. Over the years he has been invited to lecture worldwide and has co-authored over two hundred publications, including Industrial Microwave Heating, a book which is regarded as the 'Bible' for researchers working in the field of microwave heating.
The award, which depicts a model of a magnetron source, with its eight resonant cavities used for generating microwave energy, was presented at the conference gala dinner held on the RMS Queen Mary docked at Long Beach.
Dr Metaxas also has a named award at the Congress, the Ricky Metaxas Pioneer Award which is awarded to the most promising young researcher.
He said: "I went to Long Beach expecting to present the Ricky Metaxas Pioneer Award. I had no idea that I was to receive an award from my peers. It was totally unexpected."
Dr Metaxas is the Managing Director of Cambridge-based energy consultancy AC Metaxas and Associates.
